Birmingham’s Kindle Theatre plunder the city’s native sound of Heavy Metal
to create a ballsy gig for you to come and get sweaty to.

“The Furies” smashes together rock, metal and soul songs in a drastic
retelling of the ancient story of Clytemnestra – a woman’s loss, betrayal and
bloody revenge – presented through original music, vocal-scapes and stark
imagery.

“Straight out of a Ken Russell hallucination … there’s a sense that anything
could happen” THE QUIETUS

Told through the eyes of Clytemnestra’s band of Furies, sensual and scary -
this is the ultimate tale of envy, rage and revenge.

The crowd heaves and holds its breath as The Furies appear out of the
shadows…their voices rise and fall as a needling bass pumps through the
speakers…

This show hits you in the gut with its beautiful, violent sound, snake-like
pounding images, and bittersweet tunes you won’t easily forget.

“Brilliant…wildly imaginative…one of the best emerging companies in
the country”
Andy Field, Guardian

About Kindle Theatre

Kindle Theatre is led by Emily Ayres, Samantha Fox and Olivia Winteringham, and is based in Birmingham. We create performances that seek to playfully reinvent the theatrical experience; exploring intimate and communal exchanges within the live event. The projects range from large scale theatrical banquet to sweaty rock gig; often including innovative food, audience engagement and live music. Kindle shows are always ensemble-led. The Furies is our latest experiment into extended voice technique, using vocal expression to create an electrifying atmosphere.

For a full list of special guests, please visit
www.hammerfilms.com

Starting on Friday, February 10th, we will be resurrecting bloody classics like The Reptile, Frankenstein Created Woman and The Vampire Lovers and bringing them face to face with their 21st century counterparts: Wake Wood, Let Me In and the eagerly awaited The Woman in Black, starring Daniel Radcliffe.

And our guests? Well, that would be telling.

the flicker club and Hammer are a perfect fit as Hammer has been the champion of Gothic literature for decades with their magnificent adaptations of novels such as ‘Dracula’ and Frankenstein’ and now, resurrected and reinvigorated, they keep that tradition alive with the marvelous ‘Let Me In’ and ‘The Woman in Black’.

As is flicker club tradition, the film posters will be reinterpreted for our audience. 17 limited edition posters for the 17 films being screened at The Vault, are being created by Shiv, which you can devour at your leisure over the coming weeks at theflickerclub.com

In addition, the fabulous Graham Humphreys is creating a poster for “the flicker club presents: Hammer” season. This image will encapsulate all that is Hammer.

‘British Film Posters – An Illustrated History’ (BFI Publishing, 2006) say that ‘Graham… has some claim to be the last great name among Britain’s film poster artists’. It’s true. His work is iconic and he’s doing one exclusively for us for this event.

And where is this marvellous madness taking place?

At VAULT, in the dark dank depths of The Old Vic Tunnels … where else …

… are you sitting uncomfortably…? Then we’ll begin…

Originally founded in 1934, legendary British film studio Hammer has delivered a hugely successful run of films over the years including Dracula, Frankenstein Created Woman, One Million Years B.C. and The Vampire Lovers. Since 2008, the company has been part of Exclusive Media Group (“Exclusive”) which is reinvigorating this beloved global brand through investment across both traditional and new media.

Not in production since the 1980s, Hammer marked their return to features in 2010 with the release of the critically acclaimed Let Me In, an adaptation of the highly praised Swedish film Låt den rätte komma in. The film was written and directed by Matt Reeves (Cloverfield) and stars Chloe Moretz (Kick-Ass) and Kodi Smit-McPhee (The Road).

In 2011, Hammer released Antti Jokinen’s The Resident starring two-time Academy Award® winner Hilary Swank (Boys Don’t Cry, Million Dollar Baby), Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Hammer legend Sir Christopher Lee, as well as the critically lauded Wake Wood directed by David Keating and starring Aidan Gillen, Eva Birthistle and Timothy Spall.

February 2012 sees the theatrical release of Hammer’s first ever feature ghost story The Woman in Black, directed by James Watkins, adapted by Jane Goldman from the book by Susan Hill, and starring Daniel Radcliffe.

Hammer recently launched a new publishing imprint through Random House which has already published eight books. In 2012 the imprint publishes its first original titles with “The Greatcoat” by Helen Dunmore, an original novel about the Pendle witches by Jeanette Winterson and “Coldbrook” by Tim Lebbon. Also publishing in 2012 are further new novelisations of classic Hammer films.

Hammer is also broadening its reach, with plans for a Hammer Theatre of Horror and a Hammer visitor attraction, as well as continuing to honour the company’s legacy with re-releases of classic films, official histories, merchandise, screenings and social media engagement.
